HAM License Process

Use this sequence to prepare correctly, test confidently, and complete FCC follow-up without delays.

  • Technician through Extra coaching
  • Study groups & online office hours
  • Volunteer Examiner testing prior to meetings

1) Build a Study Plan

  • Pick your target element (Technician, General, or Extra).
  • Use mixed resources: manuals, practice tests, and guided videos.
  • Track weak domains and retest until passing scores are consistent.

2) Register FRN and ULS Access

  • Create your FCC CORES profile and save your FRN securely.
  • Verify ULS login access before exam day.
  • Bring FRN details to the VE session.

3) Schedule an Exam Session

  • Reserve an in-person or accredited remote VE session.
  • Confirm fees and accepted payment methods.
  • Arrive early with IDs and required documents.

4) Complete Exam Day Checklist

  • Bring photo identification and FRN.
  • Bring any existing CSCEs if upgrading.
  • Follow all VE room and device rules.

5) Complete FCC Follow-Up

  • Monitor email for FCC notices.
  • New licenses: pay FCC fee promptly.
  • Confirm call sign posting in ULS.

6) Get Active Immediately

  • Check into nets and log early contacts.
  • Set your next upgrade milestone.
  • Use a mentor for operating and station best practices.
