Technician

  • Great for repeaters, emergency support, satellites, APRS, and digital voice.
  • Recommended first milestone for all new operators.

General

Expands HF privileges for long-distance and international operation.

  • Adds broad HF access for voice, CW, and digital operation.
  • Enables stronger participation in contests, POTA, and traffic nets.
  • Best next step soon after Technician while exam momentum is high.

Amateur Extra

Highest class with full amateur privileges and expanded leadership opportunities.

  • Access to all band segments, including Extra-only allocations.
  • Improved flexibility for DXing and advanced operating practices.
  • Supports advanced technical growth and stronger mentoring roles.

Suggested Progression

  • Step 1: Technician Prep
Focus on regulations, safety, and practical station basics.
  • Step 2: General Upgrade
Move quickly into HF privileges and regular operating practice.
  • Step 3: Extra Development
Build advanced theory and operating depth for full privileges.
